Clinical Studies on Acute Pancreatitis

Abstract
The authors was conducted the clinical studies of 68 cases of acute pancreatitis who were admitted to the Busan National University Hosp. from Jan. 1967 to March 1974.
The results were as follows:
1. The incidence of acute pancreatitis was slightly higher in male than in female and it peak level was 40 yrs. an, in next, 30 and 20 yrs.
2. The main symptoms severe epigastric pain and in next, nausea and vomiting, radiating pain and indigestion.
The physical examination .showed abdominal tenderness(79. 4%) most frequently and, in next, fever and chills, abdominal distension, jaundice and hypotension.
3. The elevation of serum amylase was 83.3%, that of serum lipase 73.1%, that of serum bilirubin 31.4% and glucosuria was 41.2%.
4. In radiological studies of 56 cases, localized paralytic ileus in plain abdomen was 50.0%.
Spasticity of duodenal bulb was 43.8% and widened C-loop 37.5% of 16 cases of upper G-I series.
5. The possible etiological factors were overeating, alcohol drinking and biliary tract disease.
6. In 11 cases among 68 cases, surgical operation was performed.
On results of biopsy, hemorrhagic pancreatitis and pancreatic abscess was 36.4% each other and fat necrosis 27.2%.
7. On the duration of illness, 10-20 days was most common (60.3%) and, in next, within 10 days and 21-30 days.
8. On the therapeutic results, recovery and improvement was 79.4%, death 11.8% and no improvement 7.5%.
